Last But Not Least

Our Environmental Affairs Department took extensive measures to protect more than 100 California Least Terns, an endangered seabird, which made SAN their home last year.

California Least Terns nest and raise their chicks at SAN from mid-April to mid-September almost every year.  Last year, Airport employees spotted the first Least Terns on April 15, and discovered the first nest less than a month later.

By the time Least Tern season ended in September, we had counted an amazing 100 nests!
